Louis Schaff was born and raised in the New Orleans suburb of Metairie. He later moved to Baton Rouge to study history at Louisiana State University (LSU) and has lived there ever since. He often travels between the two cities, for work and to visit family, his parents, sister, and brother.
Louis began his professional career in furniture sales when he was 22 years old. There he gained valuable experience in customer relations and salesmanship. In 2015, after eleven years with the same furniture store, Louis began working for his father, who owns a car wash as well as a video pipe inspection business. In 2018 he became a licensed home inspector, completing the 90-hour certification class, the on-site training, and passing the Louisiana state licensing exam.
Through his father, Louis met Tom Axelrad and recognized that as an opportunity to join one of New Orleans’ most highly regarded home inspection companies. Axelrad & Associates would offer an excellent career path. For his part, Tom wanted to establish an Axelrad & Associates presence in Baton Rouge and felt it was a natural fit for Louis to join the company and lead that effort.
Louis finds the home inspection field fascinating because every house is different and offers an opportunity to see things that haven’t been encountered before. There is always something new and challenging. He enjoys using the analytical side of his brain, playing detective in a sense, and getting to the bottom of issues that arise. His background in retail sales helps him establish a good rapport with clients and he enjoys the personal interactions involved.
